19.02.2018: SUBMISSION IS CLOSED
Invitation to the
Stone Sculpture Symposium
1. Project description
This invitation addresses national and international stone sculptors. The symposium is organized by the city of Blaustein
and the artistic director, sculptor Dietmar Rudolf.
The city of Blaustein will turn 50 years in 2018.
In 1968, the merger of the villages Ehrenstein and Klingenstein laid the
foundation stone for the municipality of Blaustein. By today, further seven communities have joined to the city of Blaustein.
Each of the ten districts of Blaustein has its own, centuries-old history and, accordingly, individual identity. With the merge
to the municipality of Blaustein and in particular the elevation to the status of a city in 2014, the districts‘ sense of
belonging to the young city of Blaustein has gotten a special focus. That’s why the theme "Together" was chosen as the
theme for the symposium.
Limestone processing played a significant role already 6.000 years ago in the village Ehrenstein (today part of Blaustein’s
urban area), the so called “Ehrenstein slices” and still does to our present time.
In the 19th and early 20th centuries, the flourishing limestone- and cement-industries have left a lasting mark on the shape
of the Blautal and its communities. Today, the renaturation of abandoned quarries brings nature back to the foreground.
